COVID-19, spatial market integration and producer prices: A case study of EU agri-food markets

The spread of COVID-19 has had a signifi cant impact on economic and social activities, with the agri-food sector being no exception. Since outbreak, numerous studies investigating its sectoral infl uence have been carried out, putting emphasis demand supply shocks changes in trade volumes. However, there not much research into implications pandemic for prices. To fi ll gap, this paper is an attempt to examine producer prices EU-27 Q2 Q3 2020. study based monthly data commodities according SITC classifi cation 2015-2020 index food (2015 = 100) EU countries. It was assumed that balance key factor determining level domestic theoretical background empirical provided by spatial partial equilibrium model concept market integration. results reveal negative statistically relationship between export-import ratio (which illustrates country’s self-suffi ciency level) pre-COVID-19 period price 2020 as well were obtained regression models explaining export/import second third quarters
